Sebastopol Library Advisory Board Meeting
February 6, 2019, 4:00 p.m.
Location: Sebastopol Regional Library, Sebastopol, CA 95472

Present: Mary Shiff, Jennifer Hunter, Walt Frazer, Ralph Johnson, Fiona Hynes,Helena Whistler (LAB applicant), Stephen Zollman (Library Commissioner), Mathew Rose (Sebastopol Regional Library), Lana Adlawan (Sonoma County Library Public Services Division Manager)

1. Mary Shiff, Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. Agenda approved. December meeting Minutes were approved with edits.

 

2. Public Comment: none.

 

3. Announcements: none.

 

4. New Business:  

4a. Presentation to the Library Commission: Discussion for future meeting, and also discussed digital services or a “Did You Know Your Library Offers . . .” series for marketing and outreach or monthly newspaper article.

4b. All LAB Meeting is in the planning process and awaiting further information. Mary Shiff to attend a planning meeting on February 6 at 7:00 pm.

4c. LAB expenditures – Ideas discussed included: assist with Lantern Brochure expenses, newspaper ad space, prize wheel, façade improvement.

4d. LAB recruitment plan – tabled.

4e. LAB input on library events, direction, strategic plan – tabled.

 

5a. Commissioner Report: Mr. Zollman shared that he attended a City of Sebastopol goal setting session. He submitted an annual report to the City of Sebastopol. He mentioned the City may prefer matching funds as opposed to outright funding of projects, such as a new library building. A pledge form being used by the Rosaland Coalition was discussed.

5b. Administrator’s Report:  Lana Adlawan reported that the Library Commission appointments of late have filled all vacant seats. A new Library Director has been hired; Ann Hammond starts March 8. Working with Susan Hildreth has been great. A surplus of 6 million has funded a mobile van for programming, tech, collections, for outreach, and the procurement is still in the works. Also funded was a new delivery van and 500 wifi hotspots. A Library Foundation Grant is being pursued to circulate Chromebooks, as well as to develop a Library of Things.

5c. City Liaison Report: none.

5d. Youth Report: Suggested library investigate with Analy their Maker space.

5e. Branch Manager Report: Mathew Rose reported on the community focus of program offerings and welcomes suggests for how the library plans, develops, deploys library services.

5f. Friends of Sebastopol Library Report: Sue Fujita reported the latest book sale netted $3,750. In 2019, there will be four book sales, all with general interest, children’s and teen books. The next sale will be April 24-27, 2019.

5g. LANTERN Report:  LANTERN is mailing brochures to further the information campaign regarding the needs of the Sebastopol Regional Library.
