Sebastopol Library Advisory Board Meeting

Location: Sebastopol Regional Library, Sebastopol, CA 95472

Present: Mary Shiff, Jennifer Hunter, Fiona Hynes, Walt Frazier, Mathew Rose (Sebastopol Regional Library), Lana Adlawan (Sonoma County Library Public Services Division Manager), Susan Hildreth (Interim Library Director), Sue Fujita (President Friends of Sebastopol Library)

I. Mary Shiff, Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.

II. Public Comment: none.

III. Announcements: none.

IV. New Business:  

Iva. Farmer’s Market: Tabling three times over the summer is benficial.

IVb. Presentation to the Library Commission: Discussion for future meeting.

IVc. All LAB Meeting is in the planning process and awaiting further information.

IVd. Technology Plans for the Sebastopol Regional Library Feedback was conveyed. Digital signs are a concern of many in the community, and if they are to be installed, the signs shouldn’t detract from pleasant enjoyment of the library for those who wish to be screen and distraction free.

IVe. Elections: Mary Shiff was elected Chair; Walt Frazier was elected Vice-Chair.

Va. Commissioner Report : none.

Vb. Director’s Report:  Susan Hildreth reported she is impressed with how much is going on in the Sebastopol Library and impressed with the use of space. Since July, the Library Director recruitment has been a focus. Working with Commission on boarding, 3 new members and 2 vacant seats. Measure Y oversight committee will report in November. Lana Adlawan reported: Lunch at the Library was successful over the summer. Summer Reading participation numbers were shared. An Adult Services Coordinator was hired. A resolution honoring Friends of Libraries was issued by the Commission.

Vc. City Liaison Report: none.

Vd. Youth Report: Nothing to report.

Ve. Branch Manager Report: Mathew Rose reported on National Voter Registration Day, Homework Help success, Education Party enthusiasm, Zero Waste endeavors, Woke Wednesday happenings, upcoming STEM storytimes, the weather station, Young Author’s Project, Community Helpers display, and staff changes: Nikki Barsky retired and Terra Emerson graduated to a librarian position at Rohnert Park/Cotati Library.

Vf. Friends of Sebastopol Library Report: Sue Fujita reported the September book sale netted $3,421. In 2019, there will be four book sales, all with general interest, children’s and teen books. The December sale will be the last children’s teens books only sale. Online sale through amazon and thriftbooks is adding up to roughly $4000 per year.

Vg. LANTERN Report:  LANTERN is discussing brochures to further the information campaign regarding the needs of the Sebastopol Regional Library.
