Sebastopol Library Advisory Board Meeting
December 5, 2018, 4:00 p.m.
Location: Sebastopol Regional Library, Sebastopol, CA 95472

Present: Mary Shiff, Jennifer Hunter, Walt Frazier, Ralph Johnson, Mathew Rose (Sebastopol Regional Library), Lana Adlawan (Sonoma County Library Public Services Division Manager), Sue Fujita (President Friends of Sebastopol Library)

1. Mary Shiff, Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. Agenda and October meeting Minutes were approved.

 

2. Public Comment: none.

 

3. Announcements: none.

 

4. New Business:  

4a. Presentation to the Library Commission: Discussion for future meeting.

4b. All LAB Meeting is in the planning process and awaiting further information.

 

5a. Commissioner Report: Lana Adlawan reported on behalf of Stephen Zollman. Mr. Zollman encouraged the LAB to review the Strategic Plan and see if there are activities therein which are interesting to the LAB.

5b. Administrator’s Report:  Lana Adlawan reported that the Library Commission appointments of late have filled all vacant seats. The Director search continues. A surplus of 6 million has funded a mobile van for programming, tech, collections, for outreach. Also funded was a new delivery van and 500 wifi hotspots. Joining an interlibrary loan consortium, LINK+, is moving forward, giving access to 11 million more books. The Measure Y Oversight Report was issued. Ray Holley was hired as the Community Relations Manager.

5c. City Liaison Report: none.

5d. Youth Report: none.

5e. Branch Manager Report: Mathew Rose reported on National Voter Registration Day, Homework Help success, Education Party enthusiasm, Zero Waste endeavors, Woke Wednesday happenings, upcoming STEM storytimes, the weather station, Young Author’s Project, Community Helpers display, and staff changes: Nikki Barsky retired and Terra Emerson graduated to a librarian position at Rohnert Park/Cotati Library.

5f. Friends of Sebastopol Library Report: Sue Fujita reported the September book sale netted $3,421. In 2019, there will be four book sales, all with general interest, children’s and teen books. The December sale will be the last children’s teens books only sale. Online sale through amazon and thriftbooks is adding up to roughly $4000 per year.

5g. LANTERN Report:  LANTERN is discussing brochures to further the information campaign regarding the needs of the Sebastopol Regional Library.
