Present: Janice Chadwin, Laurell Meredith, David Cook, Janice Stites, Ken Brown, Janet Canstantino, Marge Thomas, Joanne Sanders, MaryEvelyn Arnold, Karen Taylor, Dave Dobbins, Lisa Musgrove, Tracy Gray

1CALL TO ORDER at 4:05 PM

2REPORTS       Reports and updates on library governance, management, programs, services and support group activities as well as relevant City Council activities. All items are for discussion only.

2.1Commissioner’s Report  /Thomas Haeuser

Tom is absent

 

2.2Library Director’s Report  / Interim Library Director Tracy Gray

Tracy’s appointment was recently announced. Workers’ Compensation approved, now Tracy is working on: getting to know libraries and staff, groups and citites. Workshops attended include: Immigration Law (los Cien).  Projects include: moving operations/some books to Rohnert Park facility because Central is running out of room. Roseland Coalition to have a permanent library and meetings. Discussion at Northwest to remodel starting in November.

 

2.3Branch Manager’s Report / Lisa Musgrove

Internet down from this morning until tomorrow, but still can check books in/out

Friends will put in new tables in kids’ area, and a new computer for “learning”

August 15-16 Library Internal System to be upgraded so it cannot be in use then. Materials cannot be checked out..

Summer Reading Program and the Free Lunch program are going well.

 

2.4Friends’ Report /Secretary Marge Thomas

Approved $25,000 for fiscal year 17-18 . Based on Lisa’s advice, they are buying a 3D printer.  $2000 worth of new books given away.  Since 1997 (20 years) more than $500,000 from the Friends has been given to the Library.  The Friends need a newsletter editor. Mini-booksale resulted in 65% of the books sold/donated. Considering memorial plaques and homebound book delivery.

 

2.5City Council Liaison Report  / Dave Cook

The City passed a budget and it includes fixing the library roof.

Use the city council website to contact city representatives; don’t use personal emails.

Dave was appointed to the committee to oversee Measure Y funds.

3APPROVAL OF THE JUNE 11 MINUTES- passed

4NO APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE May 11, 2017 MEETING  –Changes needed.

5PUBLIC APPEARANCES OR LETTERS          An opportunity for members of the public to address the Library Advisory Board; times are limited at the Chair’s discretion. Natalie Sandoval was approved by the Library Commission to be our LAB’s Youth Member.   She is welcomed by our Board.

6DISCUSSION ITEMS

Bethany Wilson started up again the Library Info table at the Farmers Market.

Ken Brown is using the Library for a Cannibus Forum, in July.

7ACTION ITEMS-none

8OTHER ITEMS         An opportunity for Members to present brief factual information, respond to public comments, place items on the next agenda, or request information from the Library Commissioner, Director or Branch Manager.
