  1. CONVENING: 5:02 p.m.

Present-LAB members Mike Neely, Brenda Balding, “D” Graner; Library Commissioner Randall Neff; Branch Manager Bill Coolidge; IT Manager Vicki Terbovich.

Absent: Pam Arnold, Alys Hay, Sean Manni, Town Liaison.

  2. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None
  3. REPORTS & UPDATES
    1. TOWN COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT: None
    2. LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Vicki reported that focus is currently directed at Monday openings for the main library and branches. Over 100 applications have been received so for the new positions. Plan to open 10-9 on Mondays and extend hours to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. Cloverdale Library has reopened following the refresh. Stephanie Hope-Cochran is the new branch manager. Roseland Village project is being explored. Patrick Preston, Human Resource Manager, retired. The new network infrastructure was opened today; all libraries should receive new routers by January 20. This will cut telecommunication costs by approximately half. Comcast is paying $150,000 for media training in Santa Rosa, may extend to other branches. Budgeting meetings ongoing with branch managers. Reviewing online programs to assist tutoring. New service, lynda.com, opening to the public in two weeks.
    3. LIBRARY COMMISSIONER’S REPORT: Randall reported the commission met last night 6:30-11 p.m. Contracting report for planning renovations was presented. Investigating leasing a store front during renovation of Northwest branch. $150,000 of equipment from Comcast will be for the Santa Rosa libraries, but the county also has funds and there may be expansion of service to other branches. Monday, April 3, the goal date for new hours. This adds 12 hours/week. In the long term, expanded hours may include Sundays, later hours on Saturdays and more evenings, up to 66 hours/week. Reviewing which evenings are not ideal for individual branches to be open (ex: Thursdays during summer in Windsor). Grand Jury Report: Pensions handled by CalPERS; health care benefits may have deficit in the future, but no more than other agencies. Library commission has set-up a trust fund to cover future costs of health care for retirees.
    4. BRANCH MANAGER’S REPORT: Bill reported Janet Scholler and Linda Burton White retired. Holly Ramos and Vicki Chavez are the new employees. Tiffany will become full time, a 30 hours/week library associate and a 20 hour/week specialist will be added for the expanded hours. Working on budget for possible 66 hours/week. Space consultants will help with space allocation and locations for addition staff. Have some new signage, carpeting and wall paneling. Building improvements continue. Plaque honoring Anne Marie Murphy has been installed. Had celebration for the branch’s 20th anniversary. Held holiday celebration with the Town. Attendance at the branch was 10,087 in October; 9,181 in November and 8,625 in December. Healthy Living classes are picking up. Had a memory wall and sugar skull program in October; cardio kickboxing in November; 14 attendees at Meditation for Everyone; gingerbread houses and Grinch program in December. Have PAL station in the children’s area. Homework Help has less attendees, possibly because the school system now offers homework help. Lego Club is doing well. Have scheduled a Lego Robotic program and Zumba for kids.
    5. FRIENDS OF THE WINDSOR LIBRARY REPORT: Book cart sales are down and it appears some people are not paying for items. Art show is planned to be in April.

 

  1. INFORMATION ITEMS: Question: will there be an All LAB meeting this year? Randall expressed appreciation to all who voted “yes” for Measure Y.
