2.1Commissioner’s Report /Thomas Haeuser
Last meeting was long and uneventful. The 11 members are working to get themselves better organized. In October, the commission will discuss the purpose of the Friends groups.
2.2Library Director’s Report / Library Director Tracy Gray
Sonoma County Public Library Foundation fundraiser for the Library “Chocolate and Cinema” held at the Rialto theatre in Sebastopol sold out and was a huge success.
There was a “Literary Landmark” dedication to Charles Schultz, one of just a few dozen in California, and a couple hundred in the country. A permanent plaque installed at the Central Library today.
Finalizing plans for the Rohnert Park facility to be built, with construction starting in October/November.
New recruitment to start soon for library branch staff support.
Tracy recently toured the Los Guilicos facility where there are many archived materials that need to be moved by 2020: maps, pictures, books, old records, etc. from all areas of the county. Tracy is working on this, too.
2.3Branch Manager’s Report / Lisa Musgrove
200 eclipse glasses were given away as a freebie for the August 21 event. This was a terrific marketing tool for the library because many new people came into the branch. Even though there weren’t enough glasses for all, folks received information.
August is somewhat of a recess for the library, with the summer programs over and new programs coming in September. There will be Homework Help on Tuesdays, Lego Nights, and Family Nights.
Natalie S, our student rep on our LAB, will join us in September. Presently she is on vacation.
Lisa delved deep into t he LAB appointee process with other colleagues and discovered that the term of office is not defined in writing anywhere—not in the Joint Powers, not in the bylaws. This and other items need to be addressed.
2.4Friends’ Report /Janet Constantino
Friends are giving away $1500 worth of books to children. Approved $1010 for the Classics Book Club. The book club is strong.
No news yet on the status of the Jane Kunde Room—need to check with Central. The Summer Book Sale is August 16-19. The Sun newspaper has requested photos to run publicity.
